What are the dates for the project?

28 April - May 10, 2025.

What is the location?

For security reasons we will only share the exact location when you sign up but the closest town is Aguada, Puerto Rico.

What is the cost?

New volunteers: $1,000
Returning volunteers: $750
Puerto Rico residents: $0
Please note that your participation donation is how this project is funded and 100% of your payment goes toward this project.

What do I get for what I pay?
- One on one tuition by a specialized Earthship instructor team led by an instructor with more than 20 years experience! The team includes instructors from the Earthship Academy who dedicate their lives to teaching and building Earthships. Our aim is to teach you as much as we can! This includes:
- Learning how to build a ferroconcrete structure.
- Learning how to build with tires.
- Q&A sessions with the instructors on the project being built and any questions you may have!
- Tour and learn how to build and maintain a tropical model Earthship.
- A spot to camp on site with access to water and (limited) solar power.
- Quality time with Earthship instructors and other experienced students.
- Excursions and side trips in our off time (to the beach, waterfalls, etc).
- A discounted participation fee for all future projects.

100% of your participation fee will be going to making this project a reality!!!

What does a normal day look like?

We will start at 9AM with a small orientation by one of your instructors recapping the previous day and talking about what we will do today. Any questions will be answered at this time too.
We will work until 4:30 with a lunch break around noon. The work we do is hands on learning and our instructors will be available for you during the entire time.
We will finish at 4:30, leaving ample time to explore and enjoy the beautiful island of Puerto Rico.

Will lunch be provided?

No, lunch will not be provided. Having said that and while we cannot guarantee this, there is a strong community feeling on these projects and often there are food donations and people often come together organically to cook and share lunch.

What can I do in my free time?

Puerto Rico is a magical island that offers many beautiful sites. The project site is a 20 minute drive away from Rincon, a bustling little town that offers beautiful beaches as well as restaurants, bars, shops, etc. It also has a wonderful market on Thursday evenings.

We will also organize a trip to a pristine waterfall nearby on the weekend if there is interest (weather permitting).

If I camp on site, do I have to bring my own camping equipment?

Yes, please bring your own tent, pad and sleeping bag. You can also choose to bring a hammock. Please note that there is a Sam's Club and a Home Depot 15 minutes driving from site if you would like to purchase anything you need for camping. If you have trouble bringing or purchasing camping equipment, please let us know and we can help you borrow it locally!

Is there access to water and power I can use?

Yes, there is well water on site and basic spiggets/showers are set up for you to use. The site is on solar only, so we ask you to please use power sparingly.

Am I responsible for my own flights and transportation?

Yes, you can choose to fly to San Juan or to Aguadilla. Aguadilla airport is a lot closer to the jobsite (and we can arrange pickup for you) but flights are usually more costly. If you fly to San Juan, please keep in mind that there is a long drive from San Juan to Aguada and you might want to rent a car for this.

How does my participation benefit this project?
This project is unique in the world as in that it provides a demonstration of sustainable construction, a community center, and a first response center in case of natural or human disasters providing access to basic needs.
The truth is that this center needs a kitchen to operate as such, so your participation building and supporting this project is absolutely essential!
Thank you!
