In April 2025 we will return to Puerto Rico to build a much needed kitchen for the Relief and Community Center. To volunteer, read the details below:
Dates: April 28 - May 10, 2025
Location: Earthship Community Center, Aguada, Puerto Rico
What we will work on:
The Earthship Community Center urgently needs a kitchen in order to keep on operation for community events and workshops as well as be able to serve as a first response center after disaster situations.
We will be building a ferro-concrete semi-outdoor kitchen in the same Earthship style as the rest of the center. Volunteers and crew will be able to pound tires, work with steel, and form a ferro-concrete roof.
We will also be working on some maintenance on the existing structures, which will give participants an insight into the details on how the community center and the Earthship huts are built.
We will work from 9 to 4:30, Monday to Friday, and will have plenty of time to visit and enjoy the beautiful island of Puerto Rico.
Cost:
We require a donation and participation fee to be able to volunteer on this project. The entirety of this fee will be going to materials, tools and production (travel, minimal crew pay, transportation) of this project.
New volunteers: $1,000
Returning volunteers: $750
These donations can also be from your family and friends on your behalf.
Please note that this project does count as an Earthship Field Study towards Earthship Academy graduation.
Accommodation:
Volunteers are welcome to camp on the site property. Please come prepared to be as self-suffficient as possible.
You are also welcome to find your own accommodation at your expense. Airbnbs are plenty in the area of Aguada and Rincon.
Travel:
Please plan to arrive the day before the project starts (April 27) and leave on or the day after the project ends (May 10 or 11). You can fly into San Juan or into Aguadilla airport. Aguadilla airport is only a 15 minute drive to the site, but flights can be more expensive.
If you cannot attend and would like to support this project, please consider making a donation below. Any donation is tax deductible in the United States.
This project is a partnership project between Biotecture Planet Earth, Earthship Biotecture and Tainasoy Apiario. If you have any questions, please email Deborah at deborah@biotectureplanetearth.org. For a full description of the Earthship Community Center, please see the project page.
